One more reason to keep a pair of Goggles in your glove box. Last weekend a man in New Bedford, MA saved a woman from drowning in her own car. While walking down the pier to his boat Saturday morning, Dr. John Conley noticed a car driving off the pier and into the water. Conley acted spontaneously and ran to his boat to grab fins, goggles, and a tool kit to break into the car and dove right in. It wasn’t until his third try after coming up for air that he was able to break into the car and free the woman. The driver’s name has not been released, and it has not been revealed to the press exactly why she drove over the pier. Regardless, if you live near the coast or a lake, this is a lesson that it might be a good idea to keep a pair of swimming goggles or a diving mask in your or car. Living around a large body of water can be potentially hazardous, and you never know when civil duty may call, like it did for Dr. John Conley Saturday morning. You can read the full story here. The large wraparound lenses of the Smith Sonic Motorsport Goggles offer excellent protection from wind and flying debris. In the United States, 38,000 sports-related eye injuries are reported each year, according to Consumer Product Safety Commission. Many could be prevented if the athletes had been wearing protective eyewear, such as safety goggles with polycarbonate lenses. Ski goggles are a must, and so are face shields (either “cages” or clear polycarbonate shields) for baseball or softball catchers, and hockey, football, and paintball players. Racquet sports (e.g., racquetball, tennis, squash, badminton, etc.) account for a significant number of sport-related eye injuries. Nonetheless, the most popular sports (i.e., basketball, baseball, and football) have the most numbers of such injuries because of the larger numbers of participants in these sports. The sad part about these eye injuries is that they often result in permanent damage, and over 90% of the injuries sustained could have been prevented. A deflected ball, flailing finger or whack of a racquet are all big offenders when it comes to eye trauma. Mother Nature, however, is just as likely to be a guilty party. Rocks, dust, water and gravel are all can cause eye injuries. Sports-related eye injuries can produce [...]Buying Goggles – Tips and Resources is a post from: Goggles Direct - More opticals: Eyeglasses | Sunglasses | Contact Lenses | Goggles
